Chris Moss on facial procedures
Dr Chris Moss has a particular interest and expertise in facial rejuvenation surgery following extensive full time research into the anatomy of the face in 1996. This highly acclaimed research, published in 2000 in the major American Plastic Surgery Journal (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), improved the understanding of the deep support structures (SMAS) of the face and documented surgical techniques which provide improved surgical results and safety, particularly when operating in the vicinity of the facial nerves.
Dr Chris Moss regularly performs a wide range of procedures to best improve facial shape and contour plus reduce excess signs of ageing in the eyes, face, neck, forehead, chin, cheek and lips. Dr Chris Moss is highly trained and experienced in both surgical and non-surgical techniques which reclaim your fresher more youthful look, removing signs such as tired eyes, jowls, wrinkles, and excess loose skin or fatty tissue. For more information on any of the procedures found below do not hesitate to contact the office.
Excess sagging and wrinkled facial skin, loose cheek folds, drooping around the mouth, sagging jowls, poorly defined cheeks or jawline and loose neck skin. Internal feelings that one's tired or aged face stops them from doing what they want or doesn't accurately reflect their inner youth and vitality.
Men or women, usually in the 40's to 60's, whose face or neck has sagged to a visible degree, but whose skin still retains some elasticity.
A SMAS Facelift will comprehensively lift and smooth the undesirable ageing changes in the problem areas of the face and neck. In keeping with Dr Chris Moss' philosophy, this facelift technique is designed to powerfully rejuvenate while completely avoiding the operated or pulled look. Dr Chris Moss achieves this using an advanced and proven deep support (SMAS) facelift technique which produces a more youthful and refreshed face, with the most fine and imperceptible surgical scar possible. Because of this, the benefits are almost never recognizable by others as being the result of surgery. While improvements in appearance are visible to the eye, many describe their improved confidence and sense of well being as being just as powerful.
The advanced facelift techniques deliver comprehensive correction of problems and therefore involve slightly longer surgical time. However, when ageing changes are more advanced, the benefits are the most lasting and natural available today. Recovery time is usually 10 – 14 days. Dr Chris Moss will explain your options and advise which technique best suits your individual needs.

Forties to sixties - when sagging of the face becomes a concern.
1. SMAS Facelift: uses lasting deep layer (SMAS) support to benefit the cheeks, face and neck.
2. Short Incision SMAS Facelift: uses lasting deep layer (SMAS) support via a short incision to benefit the lower two thirds of the face and upper neck.
Short Incision SMAS Facelift
Ageing of the lower two thirds of the face, (mouth, jawline, jowls and upper neck).
The Short Incision SMAS Facelift is best for those with facial ageing mainly in the lower two thirds of the face and upper neck or for patients who, for personal reasons, request a less involved procedure. The Short Incision SMAS Facelift involves shorter surgery time (1 ½ hours), the shortest possible incisions and a faster recovery than a Full SMAS Facelift, so therefore costs are lower and recovery is much quicker. With meticulous care the Short Incision SMAS Facelift results in a fresher, smoother and firmer face without any dramatic changes or obvious signs of surgery. This is perhaps the greatest benefit as patients can feel confident that the benefits will not be detectible as the result of surgery. The virtually imperceptible scars blend into the contours in the front of the ear and within the sideburn hair and there are no incisions or scars behind the ears whatsoever. Because this technique incorporates a highly advanced method of deep tissue (SMAS) support available, it produces a highly effective, long lasting and natural rejuvenation while totally avoiding the pulled or operated look. Recovery time is usually 10 days.

Forties or fifties (whenever sagging of the lower face becomes a concern).
Looseness and sagging of the skin and muscles of the neck. Fat deposits under the chin and along the jaw line. Vertical folds of skin or muscle cords at the front of the neck.

Twenties + (liposculpture)
Late Forties to sixties (anterior neck lift)
1. Liposculpture: suction removal of fat pockets along the jaw line, jowls and beneath the chin resulting in improved neckline contour and mild skin tightening.
2. Anterior (short incision) neck lift: uses lasting deep layer platysma neck muscle support to firm the overlying neck skin, redefine the jaw line and smooth vertical skin folds at the front of the neck.
3. Anterior and lateral neck lift: combines an anterior neck lift with removal of excess neck skin (via incisions placed inconspicuously behind each ear and into the hairline).
Brow and Temple Lift
1. Drooping of the eyebrows, deep forehead lines, frown lines.
2. Tired or angry eyes due to brow or temple ageing which has caused a lowered position of the eyebrows.
Modern deep support Temple and Brow lift techniques developed and used by Dr Moss prevent the operated or surprised look by gently lifting the brow while also restoring the natural forehead supports that have aged. Provides a natural looking correction to drooping of the eyebrows, elevating them to the original position they were in before ageing occurred. Correcting sagging eyebrows provides dramatic improvement to the eyes and overall facial appearance. Reverses the sad, tired or angry look with a more youthful, smoother and refreshed appearance.

Thirties and forties +
1. Anti-wrinkle injections: Softens forehead lines, slight lift possible.
2. Temple (short incision) Lift: Lifts the outer brows and corrects mild to heavy hooding above the upper eyelids to subtly freshen the eyes.
3. Coronal Brow Lift: Lifts the whole brow and corrects heavy hooding above the upper eyelids. Smooths deep horizontal and vertical lines on the forehead to produce a lasting relaxed brow effect similar to anti-wrinkle injections.
Cheek and Chin Implants
Poorly defined, flat or low cheek bones that are out of balance with the chin and face. This leads to a rounded face rather than the more preferred triangular face. High cheek bones support and uplift the skin and muscles of the cheeks, assisting in the prevention of a premature aged and wrinkled appearance.
1. Facial Implants (permanent)
Over the past decade, silicone cheek implants have become increasingly used in cosmetic plastic surgery. The cheek implants used by Dr Moss have contoured designs which now mould accurately to a patient's face.
Modern cheek implants are soft and flexible allowing for insertion through small incisions either in the lower eyelid or intra oral (inside the mouth). The implant is positioned securely onto the surface of the cheek bone to reduce the potential for the implants to move. Results are permanent, however there are some risks which will be discussed thoroughly.
2. Injectable Cheek Enhancement (lasts around 1 year)
This revolutionary new treatment has been described as a "a cheek implant in a syringe" and is now available for enhancement of facial features after hollowing due to fatty tissue loss or for more sculpted or defined chin or cheeks. This quick non-surgical treatment provides instant benefit using a very safe clear gel similar to the product used widely for dermal filler injections. This product is naturally occurring and non-animal derived so the chance of any reaction is extremely small. To date, this type of filler has been used safely and effectively in more than 1,500,000 treatments in 60 countries worldwide.
The treatment takes around 20 minutes in the rooms and requires only a short downtime.
1. Fat Injections to cheeks
2. Facelift (if problem is obvious sagging of cheeks)
Chin which is out of balance with the rest of the face and nose, particularly on side profile. A weak chin can result from underdevelopment of the chin bone. A small chin is out of harmony and balance with the rest of the face therefore inhibiting optimal beauty and sometimes causing the illusion of a prominent nose. Ageing along the jaw line at the sides of the chin can cause the appearance of jowls and a notched, poorly defined jaw line.
1. Facial Implants (permanent)
Chin augmentation is a short surgery and success depends on the artistic and proper selection of your implant by your surgeon. Chin implant surgery can benefit the young patient with an inherited deficient chin plus the older patient with signs of ageing along the jaw line. Properly performed, a silicone chin implant provides enormous cosmetic benefit for the short surgical procedure and recovery involved.
The type of modern silicone chin implants used by Dr Moss are designed to 'wrap around' the chin and are placed via a small incision under the chin (a common sight for a cut chin following a fall in childhood!) or intra-oral (inside the mouth). The chin implant is positioned directly on the surface of the bone in a meticulously designed pocket. Fine internal stitches hold the implant firmly in place. Results are permanent.
2. Injectable Chin Enhancement (lasts around 1 year) This revolutionary new treatment has been described as "a chin implant in a syringe" and is now available for enhancement of deficient, drooping, or ageing chins and jawlines.
Fat Injections (Micro Fat Grafts)
Thin and 'mean' looking lips, wrinkles and folds around the mouth and eyes, downturned corners of the mouth and flattening of the cheeks or temples. These problems are due to breakdown and resorption of the fatty tissue beneath the skin of the ageing face.
Modern understanding of fat cell grafting has dramatically improved the survival of fat injections. In expert hands, fat injections are now producing extremely safe and long lasting to permanent results without the need to inject manufactured products (dermal fillers). Very occasionally a repeat treatment is requested to achieve further effect.
Fat is extracted from a fat deposit where there is excess (tummy or thighs) and replaced in the face where there has been loss. There will be some swelling for around one or two weeks following treatment, however bruising is usually mild.

Anti-wrinkle / Anti-ageing Injections
Some of the most effective and popular procedures today do not involve surgery at all! If you are not ready for surgery, or if all you need is a slight improvement, this can be an excellent interim step. Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers soften lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoothed, improved and more youthful appearance.
They are simple, fast and effective treatments that usually involve no "down time".
Dr Chris Moss is an expert on facial anatomy and a recognised trainer in the art and science of these techniques, therefore the highest possible quality results are achieved.
1. Frown lines between the eyebrows
2. Crows feet lines around the eyes
3. Horizontal forehead wrinkles
4. Smokers' lines and mouth ageing
5. Lip enhancement
Men and women, late twenties to sixties
There are two types of injections: the first type (muscle relaxing injections) reduces the excess activity of wrinkle-causing muscles and full effect takes 7 to 10 days. The second type (the dermal fillers) immediately replenishes the skin beneath wrinkles and furrows. For very deep expression lines the benefits are greater if both types of treatment are used together. The fillers can also be used for lip enhancement to produce a more full and voluptuous lip, soften vertical lip wrinkles (smokers' lines) and redefine the lip line.
Recent advances now enable safe and dramatic rejuvenation of ageing in the mouth and lower face as well as the commonly treated upper facial areas.
These treatments are performed in the rooms, take 15-20 minutes and local anaesthetic is used as required.
Duration of results:
The benefits of dermal filler and muscle relaxing injections are temporary because the substances are gradually and safely absorbed into the body. The duration varies between people and usually lasts from 3 - 6 months for muscle relaxing injections and 4 - 12 months (depending on product selected) for dermal fillers.
Patients requesting long lasting wrinkle reduction should consider the option of fat injections. Please see the information section on Fat Injections.

Thin or 'mean' lips, poorly defined lip lines, vertical smokers' lines on the lips causing lipstick to run.
Lip fullness in today’s society is a sign of beauty and youthfulness. Lip enhancement or lip augmentation is possible using non-surgical lip filler injections or long lasting Fat Injections.
Lip Filler Injections
For those who require a simple non-surgical treatment with little or no down time the lip filler injections are most appropriate. Two products are available - one which lasts around 4 months and the other which lasts around 9 - 12 months. Both of these products are safe, non-animal derived and non-allergenic, so no skin tests are required. Results are temporary.
The particular lip filler products used in this practice have been selected for their long track record of safe and effective cosmetic use. We view safety as the highest priority and do not recommend products with any lesser track record.
For those who require a long lasting lip enhancement, the treatment of fat injections is more appropriate. Fat cells are harvested from the thighs or tummy and injected into the lips and lip line. See information on Fat Injections.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Fine to medium depth wrinkles around the lips, mouth, forehead and under the eyes.
Dr Chris Moss prefers the carbon dioxide laser because in his experience this produces the most effective wrinkle reduction, greatest firming of the skin and lasting results. Will not correct sagging of facial tissues or remove excess skin and fat as these problems will require eyelid or facelift surgery. Often performed on the mouth wrinkles at the same time as facelift surgery. Mild redness similar to sunburn (and easily concealed with makeup) occurs for a few weeks during the healing period, however the smoothing of wrinkles is long lasting! With careful patient selection and conservative resurfacing this option provides a very safe and effective solution for the smoothing of deep wrinkles and lines, particularly in the mouth area.
